Creativity isn¡¯t just for scientists, artists and designers. I know my job role for one demands creativity. But, I wouldn¡¯t necessarily say I¡¯m a creative person. Therefore, sometimes I find it difficult to keep generating new and creative ideas.
And that got me thinking. I can¡¯t be the only one that feels like this? I know that some days are easier than others. On the more difficult days, when the creative juices refuse to flow, I try to do at least one of these six things to boost my creativity:
1. Find inspiration
There¡¯s no better place to start than to find yourself a muse. Be it art, music or inspirational quotes.
2. Social media
Are you on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest? Social media is a great platform (not only for marketing!). You can use it to find and connect with other creative people. Have you got any creative Facebook friends or are you following any creative influencers for example?
Get involved in group discussions and comment on your favourite photos and posts. Use this social platform to bounce your ideas off of other people.
3. Go for a walk
Fresh air never hurt anybody.
When we are physically active, the body releases endorphins which make you feel good. It¡¯s much easier to think and clear your mind when you are in a positive mood.
4. Practice makes perfect
If there¡¯s one thing I¡¯ve realised ¨C when you first start an idea, your end result is rarely your desired result. Creating something from scratch is often a lengthy process which mostly consists of trial and error. And that¡¯s okay.
Keep going and remember to always strive for your own perfection.
5. Stop and think
We all need a little down time now and again. Even just 10/15 minutes a day of quiet time can make the world of difference. Today, I took my book to the local library and read my book. It was not only beneficial for my stress levels but also helped me to feel rebooted and energised for the afternoon. I also came up with the idea for this blog!
6. Start small
Perhaps you want to completely rebrand your company, or maybe you¡¯re gearing up to exhibit at the big show? Although it¡¯s great to have an end goal in mind and look at the bigger picture, it can often feel very overwhelming. Take it from one who knows.
Set yourself smaller targets and then tick them off your list. I love doing this because I feel like I¡¯ve achieved something towards my goal at the end of every day.
